Constituent Concerns: Stop Iran Escalation, Restore Alliances, YES to War Powers
3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to you today as a deeply concerned constituent regarding the unauthorized military operations against Iran and the collapse of our international coalitions.
The current situation in the Strait of Hormuz has exposed a dangerous reality: the United States is standing alone. Our longest-standing allies—including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, and Australia—have signaled their refusal to join our naval efforts. This is not an isolated incident, but the predictable result of an administration that has spent its term antagonizing our partners.
From the imposition of aggressive global tariffs to the diplomatic friction caused by threats of territorial acquisitions with Greenland and Canada, this administration has consistently prioritized "going it alone" over maintaining the trust of our allies. We are now seeing the consequences of this approach. When we actually want our partners to help us secure the world’s most vital energy chokepoint, they are nowhere to be found because they no longer trust our word or our strategy.
By bypassing the constitutional requirement for a Congressional declaration of war, the Executive Branch has placed American service members in harm’s way without a mandate from the people or the support of the global community. We cannot expect to treat our partners as adversaries one day and expect them to provide warships the next.
I am calling on you to:
-- Assert Congressional Authority: Vote in favor of the War Powers Resolution to require the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from hostilities unless explicitly authorized by Congress.
-- Exercise the Power of the Purse: Refuse to authorize additional funding for offensive operations that lack a clear diplomatic endgame.
-- Demand a Strategy for Restoration: Insist on public hearings to address how the State Department intends to repair the damaged relationships that have left us isolated in this conflict.
It is time for Congress to do its job and provide the necessary checks and balances to prevent further loss of life and global instability. I demand that you vote according to the oath you took and execute the constitutional responsibilities of your office.
