An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Protect teaching Black history - reject McMahon confirmation

4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am deeply troubled by Linda McMahon's remarks indicating uncertainty about whether teaching Black history in schools would violate policies against promoting diversity and be subject to defunding. The study of Black history is an essential part of a well-rounded education that helps students understand the struggles, achievements, and fundamental role of Black Americans in shaping our nation's story. Denying students this knowledge would be a grave disservice. Preserving and promoting the teaching of Black history should be a core responsibility of the Department of Education. McMahon's lack of clarity on this issue raises serious doubts about her commitment to ensuring all students receive an accurate, inclusive education. I urge you to oppose her confirmation until she provides unequivocal support for the continued teaching of Black history and other programs that foster understanding of our diverse heritage as Americans.
