An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Stop egg price gouging and corporate greed!

8 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

Several major egg producers have been accused of price gouging and exploiting the recent avian flu outbreak. While millions of hens died from the virus, significantly reducing egg supplies, critics argue that the skyrocketing egg prices are disproportionate to the shortage. This points to potential anti-competitive practices by powerful egg corporations. I urge you to investigate these allegations of price gouging thoroughly. Large corporations should not be allowed to take advantage of crises for excessive profiteering at the expense of consumers. Strict antitrust enforcement and measures to promote competition in the egg industry are needed to prevent such abuses. Corporate consolidation has given a handful of major players outsized market control, allowing them to raise prices at will. Reining in monopolistic behavior and breaking up egg production oligopolies must be a priority to ensure fair pricing and protect consumer interests. Affordable access to essential food staples like eggs should not be a luxury.
