An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defund ICE and Investigate the Killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo is dead. He had no criminal record, spent 35 years in construction, woke at 5 a.m. every day to work, and was in the process of getting a work permit. His son found out his father was gone through a Facebook video. That is what your continued funding of ICE has paid for. I want you to cut funding to ICE and DHS now, demand an independent investigation into Lorenzo's killing, and push for the release of the three men detained in the same operation. Family members say agents targeted these men because they were Hispanic men heading to a job site. ICE's self-defense claim is exactly what they said about the shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis — before video evidence proved them wrong. You already know a few phone calls from Congress can get a nun released from custody. That means you have power you are choosing not to use. Lorenzo's family deserves answers, and every person sitting in a detention facility right now deserves to go home. Stop funding a paramilitary force that is killing people and call it enforcement. Demand the investigation. Cut the funding. Do it now.
