Hold hearings on Trump's betrayal of Ukraine & start impeachment

Alongside its ongoing war of aggression invading Ukraine, Russia has been forcibly removing Ukrainian children from their parents and taking them to Russia. Human Rights Watch reports: ". Russian officials subjected the children to anti-Ukraine indoctrination, military training, and punishment for questioning the war." Trump has now shuttered the agency at Yale that was tracking those stolen children. Human Rights watch says: "The Trump administration has jeopardized efforts to find thousands of Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia and Belarus, and in doing so, may have compromised evidence of war crimes by Russian officials. After the US State Department funded Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab in 2022 to work on Ukraine, the lab exposed the scope of Russian deportation of children from occupied areas of Ukraine, a war crime." These abductions are not just a war crime: they meet the definition of genocide agreed by the UN's 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG), or the Genocide Convention. The Genocide convention is an international treaty that criminalizes genocide and obliges state parties to pursue the enforcement of its prohibition. These five acts defined as genocide include killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births, and forcibly transferring children out of the group. The convention further criminalizes "complicity, attempt, or incitement of its commission." Member states are prohibited from engaging in genocide and obligated to pursue the enforcement of this prohibition. I am already deeply troubled by the animus against Ukraine shown by Trump and Vance and by Trump's unconstitutional blocking of Congressionally agreed aid-- an impeachable offense, and one for which Trump was impeached in his first term. We see that blocking the agency that tracks abducted Ukrainian children means the US is now enabling instead of counteracting a genocidal war crime. I do not want the US to be on the side of dictatorial regimes, human rights abusers, and to be enabling war crimes and genocide. Congress needs to hold hearings on the shuttering of Yale's Humanitarian Research Lab and on Trump's blocking appropriated military aid to Ukraine, and his policy shift to looking like a tool of Putin. Please call for such hearings and be prep ared to impeach Trump for negating the constitution, giving aid to a foe, and failing our treaty obligations to stop war crimes.
