We’re seeing the problem with having a president from the business world. A businessman hesitates to burn bridges. Decisions are based on calculating who comes out on top. Then the interest, and participation by the businessman gets stronger.
We see this with Russia and Ukraine. And have seen it from the beginning. Putting aside Trump’s eternal fascination with Putin and his ways, it is obvious, though he always talks big, he won’t do anything that might jeopardize a future that might entail personal gain.
This is not American leadership.
But it seems the Senate may be waking up a bit more on this issue. That’s heartening. If we are truly the America we say we are, Ukraine deserves, and needs, our support. Forcefully. Undisputedly. Shown with the resolve, and the power behind it, that only America can show.
Trump will not lead on this issue. His only interest is a quick end to conflict. Then he’ll make a deal with the victor.
This is a craven, weak, and cowardly vision of American interests. It should make you queasy.
After one of the worst Russian bombardments yet this weekend, Pres. Zelensky posted: “The world may go into weekend mode, but the war does not stop for weekends or weekdays. This cannot be ignored.”
“Silence of America and others around the world only emboldens Putin.”
Please continue efforts to show the world that America still keeps its promises, and supports democracies under siege.
Because our current president will not. His actions always speak much louder than his words.
