An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Stop whitewashing history - Teach the truth!

I am writing as a constituent who refuses to accept the ongoing attempts to sanitize, distort, or erase America’s history. The truth matters—and it must be taught in every classroom, preserved in every library, and protected in every museum. Students have a right to know why slavery was one of the greatest crimes against humanity, how the American Revolution was both a fight for freedom and a contradiction of its own ideals, and how the Civil Rights Movement forced this country to confront its hypocrisy and live closer to its promise of equality. They also deserve to understand how the New Deal reshaped our economy and helped pull the nation out of the Great Depression. The good, the bad, and the ugly are all part of our national story. To hide the failures is to dishonor the sacrifices of those who struggled for justice. To erase the victories is to deny young people the knowledge of how change is made. To teach a half-truth is to spread a lie. That is why museums are just as important as schools. Museums are living classrooms—they preserve artifacts, documents, and stories that give future generations a chance to see the truth with their own eyes. They hold the evidence that cannot be twisted or whitewashed. Yet even these institutions are under attack—targeted by politicians who fear honesty and want to control the narrative of our nation’s past. Censorship and whitewashing of history are not patriotic—they are dangerous. A country that refuses to face its past cannot hope to build a stronger future. If we want informed citizens capable of protecting democracy, then we must arm them with the truth, not propaganda. I demand that you oppose every effort to water down, censor, or politicize history education. Stand up for honest teaching, protect teachers and museums who tell the truth, and make sure our children learn the full story of America—the triumphs and the failures. That is how we honor our ancestors, strengthen our democracy, and create a more just future. Do not let fear, lies, or political agendas silence the truth. America is strong enough to face its history. Leaders must be too.
