An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress; State Governors & Legislatures
Let’s start at the top “I will cut the fat, I will cut the waste.” Donald Trump
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
Instead of cutting $880 billion from Medicaid, I propose we start at the top. If remote work is good enough for millions of Americans, why not the President and Vice President? They don’t need taxpayer-funded mansions. Imagine the savings:
• White House Staffing Costs: Over 400 full-time staffers, including calligraphers and florists, could be cut, saving $2 billion over ten years.
• VP Residence Maintenance: The $2 million annual cost to maintain the VP residence could be eliminated, saving $20 million.
• Travel Expenses: Air Force One costs $200,000 per hour. Cutting unnecessary travel could save $5 billion over ten years, with another $1 billion saved by eliminating the VP’s travel.
Elon Musk’s DOGE claims to have found $4 million in savings per day, or $14.6 billion over ten years. That’s more than we’d save by cutting Medicaid.
Additionally, we could save:
1. Military Waste ($125 billion over ten years)
2. Empty Federal Buildings ($15 billion over ten years)
3. Congressional & White House Perks ($5 billion over ten years)
4. Cut Corporate Welfare ($250 billion over ten years)
Total Savings: $412 Billion Over 10 Years
With these changes, we could save $412 billion over a decade, plus the $14.6 billion in fraud savings, potentially creating a surplus.
Rather than gutting vital programs, let’s start by cutting waste where it’s most visible. If the average American can do more with less, why can’t our leaders?
I urge you to consider this before making cuts to essential healthcare. Let’s start at the top. Show us you really mean what you say.
“I will cut the fat, I will cut the waste, I will cut the fraud out of our government.”
