An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect birthright citizenship

10 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

As a deeply concerned and actively engaged constituent, and as a longtime member of the ACLU, I write to urge you to do all you can to protect birthright citizenship. The Supreme Court opened the door for President Trump to deny citizenship to some American-born children while lawsuits proceed, so the ACLU is suing AGAIN to block this unconstitutional order nationwide. This fight isn’t over yet. Every child born on American soil is a U.S. citizen. President Trump's attack on birthright citizenship violates the 14th Amendment and denies a core American value. We cannot be a country that deports children who were born here to countries they have never seen. We cannot let cruel, racist, unconstitutional policies wreak havoc on our communities and deny basic rights to countless children. I look forward to hearing all that you will do to protect birthright citizenship.
