An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect Our Kids: Don’t Let Executive Orders Overrule Medical Science

As your constituent, I am writing to demand immediate congressional action to protect child health and block executive attempts to unilaterally dismantle our nation’s evidence-based childhood immunization schedule. Public health policy must be driven by clinical data and medical science, not executive decrees or debunked theories. Overriding established pediatric guidelines via executive fiat creates an immediate threat to community health and pediatric safety across the country: - There is zero evidence justifying a schedule change: Decades of clinical trials and real-world safety monitoring show the current combined schedule is safe, effective, and provides optimal immune protection. No credible medical data supports unbundling vaccines or forcing arbitrary spacing between standard doses. - The core assertion is an established falsehood: In signing this directive, the administration explicitly revived debunked claims linking routine childhood vaccines to autism. Rigorous global epidemiological studies involving millions of children over decades have repeatedly proven there is zero causal link. - It mandates vaccines that do not exist: The administration's directive to break the combined MMR shot into separate doses orders pediatricians to administer individual measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines that are not currently manufactured or FDA-approved in the United States. - It lowers vaccination rates and sparks outbreaks: Decades of pediatric research show that forcing parents to attend multiple extra clinic visits drastically reduces overall childhood vaccination compliance. Lower coverage directly destroys community immunity and exposes children to dangerous, preventable diseases. - It bypasses the courts and the rule of law: After federal courts stepped in to block unlawful attempts to dismantle the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the administration used an Executive Order to end-run the judiciary and ignore standard scientific review. Congress must not allow the executive branch to replace peer-reviewed medical standards with political decrees. I urge you to take the following concrete actions: 1. Pass statutory protections to legally codify the role of independent, evidence-based scientific advisory committees (like ACIP) in establishing national immunization schedules. 2. Use the Power of the Purse to insert binding appropriations riders preventing federal funds from being used to enforce or implement unscientific executive directives on childhood vaccines. 3. Conduct emergency oversight hearings in the Senate HELP and House Energy & Commerce Committees to hold administration officials accountable for disregarding sworn confirmation testimony and established clinical standards. Please stand up for the health of America’s children, defend the rule of law, and stop the political weaponization of pediatric medicine.
