I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the recently approved budget framework that proposes extending and expanding the 2017 tax cuts, primarily benefiting the ultra-wealthy and large corporations, while imposing significant cuts to essential social services. This approach is not only fiscally irresponsible but also jeopardizes the well-being and future prosperity of Average Americans. The proposed plan includes up to $5 trillion in tax cuts over the next decade, disproportionately favoring high-income individuals and businesses. To offset these cuts, the framework suggests slashing vital programs such as Medicaid and food assistance. These cuts would have devastating effects on millions of Americans who rely on these services for their basic needs. Moreover, the plan's reliance on a "current policy baseline" to justify these tax cuts as cost-neutral is a fiscal sleight of hand that masks the true impact on our national debt, which currently stands at over $36 trillion. The national debt will rise by nearly $6 trillion! This shortsighted strategy threatens to leave future generations burdened with insurmountable debt and diminished opportunities. Bankrupt nation, zero social services. Is that what you want to leave your children with? The assault on the public realm must end! The American People are being asked to shoulder the burden of these tax cuts through reduced access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure—services that our taxes are fundamentally intended to support. Why are tax cuts for the Average American, who struggles to afford basic needs, set to expire while tax cuts for billionaires, who already have everything they could ever want and more, proposed for expansion? This is unacceptable! We cannot allow our nation to be bankrupted for the benefit of a select few, nor can we stand by as the social safety nets that underpin our society are dismantled. Furthermore, the proposed budget aligns closely with initiatives like Project 2025, which seeks to overhaul the executive branch to favor a specific political ideology. Such plans threaten to erode the democratic principles upon which our nation was founded, steering us toward a dystopian future where the needs of the many are subjugated to the interests of the few. As a constituent, I urge you to oppose this budget framework and advocate for a fiscal policy that prioritizes the needs and prosperity of all Americans, not just the wealthy elite.
