An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Do not allow nepotism in the federal government!

17 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

The revelation that the Secretary of Defense's younger brother holds a key advisory role at the Pentagon raises concerning questions about potential nepotism violations. While interagency liaisons serve an important purpose, the appointment of close family members to such positions risks undermining ethical standards and public trust in the federal government. Congress has an obligation to fully investigate this matter and take appropriate action to uphold principles of merit-based hiring and prevent conflicts of interest, real or perceived. Federal nepotism laws exist to maintain integrity, and no administration should be exempt from scrutiny when those laws may have been circumvented. A thorough congressional inquiry is warranted to determine if any ethical boundaries were crossed and ensure accountability at the highest levels.
