I am writing to express my firm opposition to this despicable House Bill 1334 that you wrote, which seeks to modify the definition of a human being in the criminal code to include unborn children and significantly alters the legal framework surrounding reproductive rights in Indiana. This bill not only raises serious concerns about the rights of individuals but also sets a dangerous precedent for government overreach in personal healthcare decisions.
By expanding the definition of a human being to include an unborn child, this bill could lead to the criminalization of individuals seeking health care to save their lives, as well as medical professionals who provide them. This could mean the death of a mother with complications or any other health reasons where a fetus is not viable. The removal of provisions that currently allow certain exceptions for abortions in cases of duress, such as in instances of rape or incest, further disregards the complex and personal decisions women must make in these painful circumstances. Why would anyone want their mother, sister, daughter to live in Indiana? This bill is only to suffocate women and their rights to determine what is best for them and their families.
This legislation is particularly troubling in its repeal of the crime of feticide and the sections that clarify the applicability of homicide statutes in the case of fetal death. This could subject individuals to criminal liability for decisions regarding their pregnancy and may even lead to wrongful prosecution in situations where abortion was sought legally under current law.
House Bill 1334 also threatens the rights of women by increasing barriers to abortion access, undermining both the privacy and autonomy of individuals in making the best healthcare choices for their circumstances. I am deeply concerned that this bill is a step backward in our efforts to protect the rights and safety of women in Indiana and across the country. It seems like you want us all to go back to 1970 or do families her choose to move? Business and economy will suffer if you pass this and good families will leave.
I urge you to oppose House Bill 1334 and protect the fundamental rights of all Hoosiers. Decisions regarding reproductive health should be made by individuals in consultation with their doctors, not dictated by the government. I encourage you to consider the real-world impact of this bill on the lives of women and families in our state and to stand for the protection of personal freedom, healthcare access, and legal rights.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue that impacts everyone in this state in various ways. I trust that you will carefully consider the implications of this bill to us all and work to ensure the preservation of individual women’s rights in Indiana.
I would not raise a daughter in this state, You seem to want to make Indiana just like Texas and it is not.
Looking forward to a response.
