Let's be clear a $400 million dollar jet is not a gift to the president. It is a security risk and a bribe.
Jets made for the presidential fleet are built under tightly regulated and secured conditions. They need to be able to withstand attacks, and protect important people. They need to be safe from spying so every piece of equipment that goes into the planes are carefully sourced and inspected.
A jet made for prestige and fancy by a foreign entity under unknown conditions is not qualified to be in the presidential fleet or to carry important people. This is the signal software issue on a massive scale waiting to happen.
Further, a foreign country gifting something this lavish to our president is an unheard of issue with the emoluments clause. It doesn't matter if there aren't currently any strings attached. The case is that it will be taken be taken into consideration now into the future in private dealings and in matters of state.
This is exactly the kind of thing that the emoluments clause was supposed to protect from. It doesn't matter if the gift is ostensibly to the government. There is already talk of giving it to the presidential library for the exclusive use of the president once he leaves office.
It is laughable to think that anyone in the United States or elsewhere could see this as anything other than a bribe.
This is just one more way in which the administration, having come to office claiming to stop corruption, is sinking our country further into the depths of depravity.
As a country that believes that even the appearance of conflicts of interest should be avoided, this isn't just a huge red flag, it is a savagely blinking sign bright as gold saying CORRUPTION LIVES HERE pointing right at our capitol, at our white house, and at Mar a Lago.
Stop supporting corruption. Support the people of our country and the dignity of our democracy.
