Fight the New House Appropriations Bill - Protect LGBTQ+ Americans

The House Appropriations Committee's draft of the appropriations bill for the Departments of Health and Human Services, unveiled last week, is attempting to sneak provisions into law that discriminate against LGBTQ+ individuals. These provisions were not present in the Senate's version of the bill. The attack against transgender care in Section 244 could block funds from more than just gender-affirming care - it could even block life-saving cancer treatments if they involve "changing the body of an individual to no longer correspond to the individual's biological sex". In addition, Section 243 and 245 prevent federal funds from being used to enforce protections for LGBTQ+ individuals in employment and education, and Section 311 would ban federal grants from going to institutions that allow trans athletes to participate in any capacity on teams that align with their gender identities. I urge you to vote to protect the rights and freedoms of all your constituents, including the LGBTQ+ community.
