I am writing to express my deep concern about the latest executive order that seeks to strip federal employees of protected union rights. This order is a direct attack on a million union workers, including thousands of union-registered nurses who care for veterans every day. By dismantling hard-won patient care protections, this order threatens our ability to safely and effectively do our jobs, putting the care our veterans deserve at risk. It’s unfair, illegal, and could even be life-threatening.
Union nurses play a vital role in advocating for our patients and addressing staffing and safety concerns. These protections are essential for providing high-quality, therapeutic care to every veteran who needs it. However, the current administration, alongside billionaire executives and health care industry CEOs, appears to prioritize profit over patient care. Their plan to entrust large, for-profit corporations with veterans' health care is not only shameful but also dangerous. Unionized hospitals consistently deliver better patient outcomes because nurses and staff can speak up about concerns and hold management accountable.
This attack on federal public health jobs is part of a broader effort to undermine the critical work nurses do every day. Requiring nurses to justify their jobs in weekly emails while gutting funding for already short-staffed hospitals is both insulting and counterproductive. Our veterans deserve better.
I urge you to stand against this executive order and protect the rights of union workers and the quality of care for our veterans. Please take action to ensure that these harmful policies do not move forward.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
