Protect Us from Illegal Deportations to CECOT

Merwil Gutiérrez, a 19-year-old asylum seeker, was wrongfully detained by ICE agents in New York and deported to the CECOT prison in El Salvador despite having no criminal record or ties to that country. His family expresses concerns over violations of due process, human rights, and fears for his safety due to harsh conditions at the prison housing gang members. This case highlights the need for elected officials in every state to take decisive action to uphold legal protections, prevent unlawful deportations without proper evaluation, investigate such incidents thoroughly, and work towards immediately repatriating those affected. While this did not happen in Maine, you need to be working to protect Mainers from ICE’s illegal activities. Latina folks are the first target. But you know from history, this is only the beginning. Maine has been amazing standing up to Trump’s actions and I thank you for that. ICE is the new SS and this must be stopped. Federal elected officials are for the most part doing nothing to stop ICE. It falls to the state governments to be the ones to protect the residents of each state. You MUST do this ethical and moral duty and protect everyone in Maine from abductions and deportations to a concentration camps in El Salvador.
