Commute Nidal Hasan's Sentence and Stop the Public Execution

Commute Nidal Hasan's sentence to life in prison and put an end to this spectacle before December 3rd. What Pete Hegseth is planning — a livestreamed firing squad execution, the first military execution in over 60 years — is not justice. It's theater, and you have the power to stop it.
Hasan's crimes were real and horrific. Thirteen people were killed at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009, and nothing about this execution brings them back or heals their families. What it does do is drag the United States into the company of Afghanistan, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia as countries that still carry out firing squad executions. That is not a list we should want to be on. Turning a death sentence into a public broadcast isn't a deterrent — it's a performance designed to inflame, not to deliver justice.
Commuting this sentence to life without parole is the right call. It holds Hasan accountable for the rest of his natural life, removes the grotesque circus Hegseth is orchestrating, and keeps this country from crossing a line it cannot uncross. Use your authority now.
