Stop the bulldozing of Big Bend National Park. Federal contractors are blasting roads and tearing through 801,000 acres of protected land — one of America's most irreplaceable natural treasures — and Congress needs to act now to halt it. The $46.5 billion in wall funding you approved last summer is being used to destroy the very land it was never meant to touch.
Local opposition is nearly unanimous. Residents, conservationists, and even some Trump voters are watching this unfold in horror. The National Parks Conservation Association called it "an unconscionable attack on one of America's greatest treasures." The area sees little illegal migration precisely because the terrain is so remote and rugged — meaning this destruction isn't even solving the problem it claims to address. Surveillance technology and cameras would be both less destructive and more effective.
Big Bend has been protected since 1944. Use your authority to reverse the environmental waivers that made this construction possible, cut off funding for wall construction within national park boundaries, and demand a full halt to any further bulldozing. This is a betrayal of every American who believes our national parks belong to all of us.
