I’m writing in support of the bipartisan UNLOCK Act that addresses the affordable housing shortage that nearly every city has. Private industry cannot be trusted to solve this shortage alone, and the affordable housing crisis is squeezing families in every community right now, and this legislation is a concrete step toward fixing it.
Rents have surged well beyond what working families, even in professions like auto repair, teaching, police and firefighting services can absorb, and the shortage of affordable units isn't getting better on its own.
As I read it, the UNLOCK Act addresses the structural barriers that keep housing supply low and costs high. That matters to real people here who are one rent hike away from displacement.
This is the kind of legislation your constituents will remember. Press forward with the UNLOCK Act.
