Condemn the Killing of Journalists and Medical Workers in Lebanon I am writing to express my horror and outrage regarding Israel's continued targeting of journalists and medical workers in Lebanon. On March 28, Israeli forces killed three Lebanese journalists in a targeted airstrike, followed by a second strike on rescue workers sent to assist them. More than 50 medical workers have now been killed in Lebanon, with nine killed in a single day. The journalists killed were identified as Ali Shaib of Al Manar, and Fatima Ftouni and her brother Mohammed Ftouni of Al Mayadeen. Lebanon's health ministry stated that medics were directly targeted en route to the scene of the earlier strike on journalists. The World Health Organization condemned attacks on health workers, stating they are protected under international humanitarian law and "should never be targeted." Israel's military claimed Shaib was a Hezbollah member, providing no evidence. Hezbollah denied this claim. Lebanon's president described the killings as "a brazen crime that violates all treaties and norms through which journalists enjoy international protection in war." These killings are not isolated. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 260 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 2023. Israel has repeatedly accused journalists of working for Hamas, often without evidence, to justify these attacks. A pattern has emerged: Israel kills journalists and medical workers, claims without proof they were militants, and faces no consequences. This is happening with full U.S. military and diplomatic support. Our weapons and diplomatic cover enable these violations of international law. I demand that you: 1. Publicly condemn Israel's killing of journalists and medical workers as violations of international humanitarian law. 2. Support an immediate ceasefire and independent investigation into these targeted killings. 3. Suspend all military aid to Israel until it ceases its attacks on civilians, journalists, and medical personnel. Silencing the press and bombing medics are not self-defense. They are war crimes. The United States must stop enabling them.
