Introduce a Constitutional Amendment Protecting the Right to Clean Water

Introduce a constitutional amendment guaranteeing every American the right to clean, safe drinking water. The Fifth Circuit's ruling in the Jackson water crisis exposed a devastating gap in our legal framework — courts can dismiss families drinking lead-contaminated water with a shrug and a suggestion to "elect better representatives." That cannot stand, and Congress has the power to fix it. Water is not a partisan issue. Rich or poor, young or old, every single person on this planet needs water to survive. The Declaration of Independence speaks of unalienable rights — what is more unalienable than access to the source of life itself? Right now, no state resident has a guaranteed constitutional remedy when their government knowingly poisons their water supply. That means what happened in Jackson can happen anywhere, to anyone. A constitutional amendment would establish a clear, enforceable baseline: safe drinking water is a right, not a privilege, and government officials who knowingly allow contamination face real legal accountability. This is not a radical idea. It is the bare minimum a government owes its people.
