Halt ICE's Alarming Weapons Buildup and Investigate Excessive Force

I am deeply concerned about the recent surge in weapons spending by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The 700% increase in expenditures on 'small arms, ordnance, and ordnance accessories manufacturing' in 2025 compared to the previous year is alarming and demands immediate attention.
From January to October 2025, ICE has spent an unprecedented $71,515,762 on weaponry, including guns, armor, chemical weapons, and even 'guided missile warheads and explosive components.' This massive buildup far exceeds spending levels under both the Biden administration and Trump's first term. The scale and nature of these purchases, exemplified by a $9,098,590 acquisition of semi-automatic and automatic rifles from Geissele Automatics on September 29, 2025, raise serious questions about ICE's intentions and operational focus.
Equally troubling is the correlation between this weapons buildup and a reported increase in violent incidents involving ICE officers. There have been multiple instances of excessive force used against protesters and bystanders, prompting legal action from the ACLU, who argue that these tactics violate constitutional rights.
I urge you to take immediate action to halt this weapons buildup and launch a thorough investigation into ICE's use of force. We need transparency about why a domestic law enforcement agency requires military-grade weaponry, including guided missiles. This escalation not only threatens civil liberties but also risks further eroding trust between communities and law enforcement.
Please introduce or support legislation to limit ICE's weapons procurement, enhance oversight of their operations, and ensure that their tactics align with constitutional protections. Our immigration enforcement should focus on humane and just policies, not on amassing an arsenal that outstrips the needs of domestic law enforcement. The safety and rights of all individuals within our borders, regardless of their immigration status, must be protected. I look forward to hearing about the steps you will take to address this urgent matter.
