Oppose HR 722! Preborn is not medical term; this bill aims only to harm women

We must oppose HR 722. I'm writing to you today to remind you why it's so important to oppose HR 722. We already know that trying to define personhood and the start of life has many moral and medical issues that are not aimed at improving healthcare, safety, or the sanctity of life. We must adhere to science and not let religion dictate our constitutional freedoms. This bill aims to define life as preborn. There is no such thing, medically or otherwise, as preborn. Each individual can decide religiously or philosophically when they think life begins, but in healthcare we need to remember what the risks are. By this definition, fertile women lose all bodily and autonomy rights. Every time a woman menstruates, an egg can be fertilized and then cycled out because the body deems it unviable and this happens many times for many women all year round, this is how our bodies fundamentally work. This is biology. Sometimes, the body decides that a fertilized egg is not viable a few weeks later as things develop or do not develop. This is called an early miscarriage and is completely natural. It is the body's way of deciding if life is going to be possible or not. If we start to try and define when life begins, this criminalizes the very biological nature of a woman's body. Should women be considered immoral for simply menstruating? For a natural miscarriage that we may or may not even know is happening? Should we be at risk of further discriminatory legislation when we have to decide at any point if we can risk our lives to continue to carry fertilized eggs or zygotes to viability? Even when a pregnancy is intentional and wanted, it is not always safe or physically possible. Without medical intervention, women often will die of things like infection and sepsis. This bill, like many others, is not about what's right or wrong or the sanctity of life. We all know that this bill is fundamentally about controlling the autonomy and rights of women. We will not go back. This bill needs to be stopped now to send a clear message that this is not the way. Preventative healthcare such as access to conception and comprehensive sexual health education more effective, safe and moral. We have constitutional rights and human rights that need to be protected. These freedoms are what our country stands for. The freedom to decide what is right for our own bodies. This bill is nothing short of religious or class warfare on women. Remember that you represent your voters, not your own personal definitions or medical choices. Thank you for your time.
