Over the past 20 years, I've seen the shameful growth of foreign-made souvenirs for sale at our national monuments, museums, and landmarks.
Not too long ago, I was at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. After the ride up in the Arch, I went to purchase souvenirs. I expected to buy brands made in Missouri or at least in the USA. I was wrong. The majority of the goods for sale at this landmark are made overseas. Not only are they foreign-made, but the same type of product from the same manufacturer can be purchased at other national parks and airports. The only difference is another state name is slapped on the product. That is convoluted, shameful, and is a disservice to our heritage.
Can you imagine traveling to Machu Picchu, Peru, purchasing a souvenir believing it was locally made, but the label reads, Made in the USA? One would be insane to buy it. So, I urge you to support President Biden's executive order for the federal government to purchase goods and services, for all our landmarks and monuments, from US companies with the label, Made in the USA.
I urge you to expand on Biden's executive order with legislation to make it the law.
