I am writing to express my outrage and deep concern regarding reports that the Department of Justice is investigating E. Jean Carroll following her legal cases involving Donald Trump. If the DOJ is being used to target or intimidate a private citizen connected to the president’s personal legal disputes, it represents a dangerous abuse of power and a direct threat to the rule of law.
The Department of Justice exists to serve the American people — not to protect a president’s personal interests or retaliate against his critics. Any investigation connected to Carroll under these circumstances creates the appearance of political corruption, selective enforcement, and government intimidation. No administration should be permitted to weaponize federal law enforcement against individuals involved in civil actions against the president.
Congress must immediately demand transparency regarding the basis for this investigation, conduct aggressive oversight hearings, and take action to prevent political interference within the DOJ. If evidence shows that presidential power is being abused for personal retaliation or protection, Congress must pursue full accountability, including impeachment proceedings if warranted.
The integrity and independence of our justice system are fundamental to democracy. Americans deserve equal justice under the law, not a system influenced by political loyalty, intimidation, or personal vendettas.
