I have written to you about bits and pieces of the Big Beautiful Bill, but as I learn more about it, I feel you need to scrap it and start over. The tax cuts are too costly; the next generation can not be saddled with the government debt it will create. The cuts to Medicaid need to be preferably eliminated but at least they should be phased in, so that states and cities can come up with a replacement, otherwise we will have a huge problem with homeless people who are very sick. The additional budget for ICE is not necessary; ICE has found ways to capture undocumented people at their immigration check ins, and police and sheriffs are contacting ICE when they find an ICE warrant. Besides, I don't want non-criminal undocumented folks deported, but I understand that you do (I don't understand why, though.) I don't want the border wall completed, and we don't need it; border crossings are way down, and there are natural barriers in areas without a border wall. I've been to El Paso and Tijuana lately; it's fine; you'd never know it was a border town, other than the big ugly hideous-looking wall. About 2/3 of Medicaid recipients are currently working (at very low paying jobs); those who aren't are typically disabled or enrolled in school) so the work requirement is probably not necessary, just mean. If the bill has a provision to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, and require employers to provide health insurance, and also provide access to healthy food in food deserts, clean air and water, and wellness checkups, that would be a good way to reduce Medicaid spending, but I'm pretty sure y'all are not going that direction. The reduced standards for construction will make Americans less safe and more susceptible to natural disasters. Cuts to weather forecasting and FEMA will be devastating to Texas. There are parts of the bill I don't object to, relating to helping with the cost of raising children, but if you really care about children, you will refuse to saddle them with a huge federal budget deficit. The bill is not good for Texas or the country. Please start over. Thank you.
