Restore the Rule of Law: Investigate ICE Abuses Now

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I write as a constituent deeply alarmed by recent ICE actions, especially as described in the June 11, 2025 Washington Post opinion piece, “The Secret Police Descending on Small Town, U.S.A.” by Greg Sargent. The article details a May 30 ICE raid in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where masked agents in unmarked vehicles detained a landscaper without presenting a warrant or ID. His family was left in the dark for days. These are not the actions of a lawful democracy. A Threat to the Rule of Law American law does not permit secret arrests, masked officers without accountability, or agents who refuse to identify themselves. ICE’s practices violate the Fourth and Fifth Amendments and undermine due process. The ACLU has documented numerous cases where ICE agents used false pretenses, impersonated police, or failed to show warrants—tactics that would be unconstitutional in any other law enforcement context. Targeting Law-Abiding Immigrants ICE’s detention of immigrants with no criminal history is growing rapidly. As of mid-2025, about 25% of ICE detainees have no criminal record—up from just 6% last year. The ACLU has shown how these tactics disproportionately affect Latino communities and peaceful workers. Many are longtime residents with families and steady jobs. This unjustly punishes peaceful individuals and wastes enforcement resources. Community and Economic Harm From Martha’s Vineyard to Los Angeles, ICE raids have disrupted businesses, separated families, and spread fear. Workers disappear without explanation. Children are left behind. Local employers lose labor with no warning. In California, the ACLU reports that detainees were held in basement facilities without access to food, water, or legal counsel. These raids destabilize entire communities. Congress Must Act I urge you to: 1. Demand oversight hearings on ICE’s tactics. 2. Support laws requiring ICE to present valid warrants and proper ID. 3. Publicly condemn enforcement that violates due process or community trust. ICE’s current approach defies the Constitution and damages our democracy. Please act now to restore lawful accountability.
