Protect Transgender Youth's Access to Hormone Therapy

Oppose any legislation restricting transgender adolescents' access to hormone replacement therapy. A new study from Southern Oregon University and Rutgers University found that HRT initiation is associated with a 20% reduction in the likelihood of running away from home among transgender teens — and the effect is even stronger for youth who start treatment at ages 14 and 15. Running away isn't a minor inconvenience. The study's authors are explicit: it leads directly to elevated risks of homelessness, drug addiction, dropping out of school, and worsening depression. Restricting HRT access doesn't protect these kids — it pushes them out the door and into danger. The researchers warn that limiting access "can elevate the risk of running away and substantially undermine the mental health and overall well-being of transgender adolescents." This is evidence, not ideology. Stand against restrictions on gender-affirming care for minors and protect the futures of transgender youth in this state.
