Reconsider and invest in Summer EBT program to address child hunger.

The recent decision to decline federal funding for the Summer EBT program, which would have provided approximately $40 per month to each eligible child, is concerning. This program, fully funded by the federal government, would have benefited around 240,000 children in Iowa, at a cost of $28.8 million. The state's responsibility would have been limited to administration costs, estimated at $2.2 million. The link between food insecurity and obesity, as highlighted by the Iowa Hunger Coalition, underscores the importance of such initiatives. It is requested to reconsider this decision and invest in the Summer EBT program, as it offers a practical solution to address child hunger during the summer months. This investment could be a significant step towards addressing the underlying issues impacting children and families.
