An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Trump Said Iran Was Obliterated. Now We’re at War Again. Stop It!

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

On June 24, 2025, Trump declared Iran’s nuclear program “completely and totally obliterated” after U.S. airstrikes hit three nuclear sites. A classified U.S. intelligence assessment found the program was set back by months, not destroyed. Eight months later, Trump’s own special envoy told Fox News Iran was “probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material.” On February 28, 2026, the U.S. launched a second military campaign with shifting justifications and, according to Defense Secretary Hegseth, no rules of engagement. Reports are already emerging that a U.S. missile struck a girls’ school in Iran, killing more than 100 people. The Arms Control Association has confirmed that military strikes without congressional approval violate the Constitution, the War Powers Act, and the UN Charter. We spent over $2 trillion in Iraq and Afghanistan. The human cost to our service members, their families, and their long-term mental health lasted decades. I’m asking you to invoke the War Powers Act now, force a congressional vote before operations expand further, and demand public hearings on the administration’s contradictory case for a war that has already begun without your approval.
