An open letter to the U.S. Congress

The Natl. Guard isn't needed in our cities!

23 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I’m writing regarding the recent news (via Independent.com) that the president is deploying up to 1700 National Guard members to 19 states to help “crack down” on crime and immigration issues. According to the news, deployments will take place across the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming, per Fox News. The president is also threatening to send them to Chicago. I thought the National Guard could only be requested by the mayor of those cities, not randomly deployed by the president. The president should only have this ability when in response to a national emergency, such as in the aftermath of a severe weather event. This is an abuse of power, using Title 32 to cover it up. There is no crisis. I urge you to speak out against these actions. It is not acceptable in our country. Better yet, start impeachment proceedings. Trump and his cronies continue to skirt the laws of our land, and in many cases, break them outright. He must be held accountable.
