THE BEST OF AMERICA

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. We all get excited these days when anyone in leadership displays a working intellect. Who calls out BS from a place of authority. We got to see an example of this recently. And it made America’s ears prick up. In case you missed it. Don’t know what I’m talking about. Or don’t care to pay attention, I summarize for you, just FYI. “When Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) suggested [in a House Committee meeting] that Critical Race Theory was weakening the U.S. military, the general [Mark A. Miley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff] responded sharply. “A lot of us have to get much smarter on whatever the theory is,” he began, “but I do think it’s important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open minded and be widely read.” He got more specific: “I want to understand white rage, and I'm white, and I want to understand it. So what is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America? What caused that? I want to find that out….” Our military, he said, comes from the American people, “so it is important that the leaders, now and in the future, do understand it. I've read Mao Zedong. I've read Karl Marx. I've read Lenin. That doesn't make me a communist. So what is wrong with understanding—having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend?” Milley said. “And,” he continued, “I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned, noncommissioned officers of being, quote, ‘woke’ or something else, because we're studying some theories that are out there." This is a perfect example of what happens when a flippant sound bite from a small mind runs smack dab into intellect and integrity. The small mind has no response. Because there is none. Thank god for inquisitive minds like the general. And who is not afraid to use his to help better our country.
