The proposed Medicaid cuts by Congress threaten to disrupt Alaska's healthcare system and economy. Medicaid plays a vital role in ensuring access to affordable care for one-third of Alaskans, including children, seniors in nursing homes, and Alaska Natives. Cuts would result in a $194 million loss of federal funding for the state this year alone, leading to a projected 32,000 Alaskans losing coverage. Major providers like Providence Alaska and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium rely heavily on Medicaid payments, comprising 25% and 41% of their revenue respectively. Undermining this crucial program would jeopardize the health of our communities, strain small businesses struggling to provide employee healthcare, and ultimately impede economic growth. We cannot afford to shoulder these drastic cuts. Protecting Alaskans' access to quality, affordable healthcare through Medicaid must be a top priority. I urge you to vigorously oppose any measures that would slash federal Medicaid funding and leave thousands of our most vulnerable residents without essential medical services.
