This tactic denies Republicans the ability to conduct business and compels their physical presence. Additionally, unanimous consent must be consistently blocked, transforming routine matters into arduous processes consuming extensive floor time. These delaying tactics are crucial to slowing the momentum of Trump's power grab and allowing public opposition to intensify. Ultimately, the Senate rules empower the minority to meaningfully impede an unchecked majority. Faced with this authoritarian overreach, Senate Democrats have an obligation to American democracy itself to exhaust every parliamentary maneuver at their disposal.
