An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Shut Down Dilley ICE Detention Camp Immediately
67 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!
I am writing as your constituent to demand the immediate closure of the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas.
Recent reporting reveals that federal ICE agents are conducting raids on the dormitories of detained children and their parents — confiscating and destroying handwritten letters from minors. These children, some as young as 14, are being held for months without adequate medical care, schooling, or basic necessities. One detained child wrote of going 15 minutes without food, of witnessing mental health deterioration among detainees, and of being separated from siblings and family.
The destruction of children’s letters is not border enforcement — it is the suppression of evidence and the silencing of vulnerable voices. This is a fundamental violation of civil liberties and human dignity on Texas soil.
I urge you to:
1. Call for an immediate congressional investigation into conditions at Dilley
2. Demand independent oversight and media access to the facility
3. Support legislation to end the detention of asylum-seeking children and families
History will judge how we treated the most vulnerable among us. I urge you to act now.
