The Iowa DOGE Proposal is a Waste of Taxpayer Dollars

I am writing to express my deep concern over your push to establish a state Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). As a conservative, I value fiscal responsibility, limited government, and common sense. This proposal is the opposite of all three.
Iowa already has an auditor, and not just any auditor—a competent, proven watchdog in Rob Sand, who has consistently identified fraud and waste. Creating an entirely new bureaucracy to do what is already being done well is government bloat at its worst. Conservatives are supposed to oppose wasteful spending, not create it. If the goal is truly efficiency, why are you throwing taxpayer dollars at redundant, unnecessary positions? It’s fiscally reckless and reeks of personal political vendettas rather than sound governance.
It’s no secret that you dislike Rob Sand, but disliking the auditor does not discredit him. The entire country saw you flounder under questioning in the congressional oversight hearing. The viral videos wasn’t just emb arrassing for you—it was embarrassing for Iowa. Instead of owning up to failures and working within existing structures to improve accountability, you’re doubling down on pettiness by wasting taxpayer money on an unnecessary agency. That is not leadership.
Republicans are supposed to be the party of responsible governance, not reactionary politics and wasteful spending. If you keep prioritizing partisan loyalty tests over good policy, you’re not just hurting Iowans—you’re ensuring that Iowa won’t have another Republican governor anytime soon.
I urge you to reconsider this ill-advised push for a redundant government agency. If you truly believe in efficiency and accountability, work with the auditor we already have instead of throwing taxpayer money at a problem that doesn’t exist.
