An open letter to State Governors (Utah only)

Veto legislation restricting Utah's vote-by-mail system

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I urge the governor to veto any changes that would eliminate or severely restrict Utah's popular vote-by-mail system. Forcing most voters to use understaffed polling places or fewer drop boxes will create unnecessary barriers that threaten to disenfranchise many citizens and undermine Utah's robust voter participation. While implementing targeted security upgrades like verifying ID through driver's license numbers or photos with mail ballots is reasonable, upending the entire vote-by-mail process is an extreme overreaction not justified by evidence. Audits found only a modest 4% signature verification error rate, with 87% of Utahns confident their 2024 votes were counted accurately. Drastically altering a system that works well risks devastating public trust in elections over minimal issues. I implore the governor to veto HB300 and any legislation that eliminates easily accessible mail voting options that Utah voters overwhelmingly support. Preserving secure and accessible elections must be the top priority.
