It’s time for a serious reminder — the Hatch Act is not optional. It is not a suggestion, not a guideline, not a talking point to be ignored when convenient. It is federal law, designed to protect the integrity of our government and ensure that public servants serve the American people — not political parties, not campaigns, and certainly not the personal ambitions of elected officials.
The Hatch Act of 1939 exists for one fundamental reason: to keep partisan politics out of government service. It prohibits federal employees — outside of the President and Vice President — from engaging in political activities while performing their official duties, using government property or authority, or appearing to endorse political candidates in their capacity as public officials.
And yet, violations are piling up across multiple agencies. From senior advisors turning press briefings into campaign rallies, to cabinet members using taxpayer-funded travel to promote political candidates, to entire departments being weaponized for partisan gain — this is a systemic breakdown of law and ethics. The blatant disregard for the Hatch Act isn’t just misconduct; it’s a direct attack on the impartial functioning of our democracy.
Every public employee who uses their office for political gain betrays their oath and erodes public trust. Every ignored violation tells Americans that there are two sets of rules — one for those in power, and one for everyone else. That cannot stand.
I am demanding immediate action.
Congress must hold oversight hearings and demand accountability. The Office of Special Counsel must investigate and refer all violators for prosecution. And the Department of Justice must treat these violations as the serious federal crimes they are — not as political inconveniences.
If this administration and Congress truly care about restoring trust in government, then start by enforcing the laws that already exist. The Hatch Act protects our democracy from political corruption within its own walls. Ignoring it invites chaos, cronyism, and tyranny.
No more excuses. No more “warnings.” Enforce the Hatch Act. Prosecute every violation — no matter how powerful the person is.
