Fire Musk, Dismantle DOGE, Stop the Destruction Now

Elon Musk’s leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has resulted in reckless policies, including the disastrous rollout of the DOGE federal credit card. His imposed $1 spending limit on federal employee purchases has severely disrupted government operations, leaving agencies unable to buy necessary supplies or fund work-related travel (Wired, March 5, 2025). This reckless cost-cutting has crippled departments like the National Park Service and halted scientific research, proving that Musk’s private-sector slash-and-burn tactics are unfit for public administration. Beyond financial mismanagement, Musk’s actions have caused massive federal job losses, further damaging government functionality. In February 2025 alone, layoffs surged to over 172,000, the highest since the pandemic, with more than 62,000 jobs slashed across 17 federal agencies (Investopedia, March 5, 2025). This gutting of the workforce erodes institutional knowledge and leaves agencies understaffed, undermining public services that millions of Americans rely on. Critical agencies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the National Science Foundation have been severely weakened, limiting their ability to protect consumers and support research (Wired, March 5, 2025). The long-term consequences of Musk’s chaotic leadership will be devastating. By appointing unqualified individuals, using artificial intelligence for mass layoffs, and forcing agencies to operate under extreme austerity, he is dismantling the very institutions that keep the government running (Wired, March 5, 2025). Congress must act now to investigate DOGE, shut down Musk’s unconstitutional power grab, and restore competent leadership before irreversible damage is done.
