An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Do not abandon the men in CECOT

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to express my continued concern for the men who were condemned to CECOT in El Salvador without just due process. By all accounts, these men were condemned to this fate based on extremely insubstantial evidence, such as tattoos. This is not justice. Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act was unfounded and unjust, as has been determined by the courts (including a Trump appointed judge). I urge you to advocate that these men be returned to the United States. If there is evidence against them to indicate they are in fact violent criminals, let it be presented in court. The right to trial before imprisonment is promised to all within the United States (not just citizens). It is inhumane and unjust to lock people away without this due process. It is especially wrong to do so by sending them to a foreign country. We cannot and should not abandon these men, like Andry Hernandez Romero or Merwil Gutierrez. Please, remember your humanity.
