I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent executive order regarding birthright citizenship. This executive action stands in direct contradiction to the principles upon which our nation was founded and undermines the core values enshrined in the Constitution of the United States. The 14th Amendment guarantees that "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." This provision has served as the bedrock of our nation's commitment to equality and justice. The birthright citizenship that it provides is not only a cornerstone of American democracy but also a fundamental right that must not be eroded or questioned by executive decree. In light of this, I am compelled to remind you of the oath taken by the Justices of the Supreme Court when assuming office: "I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich; and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as [title] under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God." This oath binds you, as Justices, to uphold the Constitution, including the 14th Amendment, ensuring that no executive order, no matter how powerful, can circumvent the foundational laws that protect the rights of all individuals born in the United States. The proposed order undermines these protections and calls into question the very principles of equality and justice that define our nation. As guardians of the Constitution, you, the Justices of the Supreme Court, hold a unique and vital role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. In this moment of legal and political uncertainty, I urge you to consider the constitutional and moral implications of any action that would undermine the rights of individuals born in this country. Your commitment to interpreting the law impartially and justly has never been more critical, and I trust that the Court will act in accordance with the Constitution to preserve birthright citizenship. Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter.
