I’m writing to urge you to support the Initiative Integrity Act (SB 5973) to protect our initiative process from aggressive and deceitful signature-gathering tactics. SB 5973 makes Washington’s initiative process more trustworthy by closing two loopholes that weaken public confidence. First, it clarifies that signature gatherers may be paid hourly, daily, or on salary, but not per-signature. This reduces misleading tactics and promotes fairer working conditions. Second, it also requires sponsors to collect 1,000 valid signatures before the Attorney General drafts a ballot title, reducing unnecessary repeat filings and saving resources. I urge you to support SB 5973 to uphold the integrity of our initiative process.
