I urge you to stop allowing Secretary McMahon to dismantle the Department of Education and strip away the protections our children depend on—especially students with disabilities.
Congress created IDEA to ensure every child with a disability has access to a free appropriate public education, and it entrusted the Department of Education with enforcing that law. Weakening the Department, eliminating experienced staff, and shifting special education responsibilities away from education puts those rights at risk.
Students with disabilities need a strong Department of Education to investigate complaints, hold states and school districts accountable, and ensure IDEA and Section 504 are fully enforced.
Please use your oversight and legislative authority to stop the dismantling of the Department of Education, preserve IDEA within the Department, and protect the civil rights of millions of students with disabilities.
