Protect LGBTQ students from discriminatory policies and rhetoric

Oklahoma's leaders have a disturbing record of promoting harmful rhetoric and discriminatory policies that endanger LGBTQ students like Nex Benedict. Governor Stitt has signed laws restricting access to bathrooms and healthcare for transgender youth, as well as banning them from school sports. Education Superintendent Walters has spread disinformation labeling transgender students a "threat" and pushed for classroom censorship of LGBTQ-inclusive materials. These actions create an unsafe environment that enables bullying and violence against an already vulnerable population. I urge you to take a firm stand against such bigoted rhetoric and legislation that puts kids at risk. Instead, prioritize policies focused on ensuring all students feel welcomed, respected and protected in their schools and communities. Our elected officials must defend the rights and wellbeing of every child.
