Oppose USPS Privatization, Protect Public Service

I am writing to express strong opposition to the Trump administration’s push to privatize the United States Postal Service. Reports show plans to remove the USPS Board of Governors and shift control to the Department of Commerce—clearing a path for privatization and possible takeover by private companies like Amazon (Truthout, May 2025). This is a direct attack on one of our nation’s most trusted and essential public services. Privatizing the USPS would devastate rural communities, low-income families, and small businesses that depend on reliable, affordable mail service. Unlike private companies, the USPS is legally required to deliver to every address in the country at uniform rates. That’s not just convenient—it’s a democratic promise. No private entity would maintain that commitment, especially if profit becomes the only goal. The Postal Service is not a failing institution. It has made operational improvements and turned recent profits. This attempt to dismantle it is ideological, not practical. It threatens to hand over a vital public good to unaccountable corporations with no obligation to serve all Americans equally. I urge you to reject any plan to privatize the USPS. Defend this institution’s independence and protect its ability to serve the public fairly, reliably, and without political interference.
