An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose modern concentration camps in Guantanamo

37 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I’m writing today to ask you to oppose the creation of migrant detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay. I heard Secretary Hegseth say that the intention of this facility is to provide “temporary transit” for deported migrants in a “humane” way - however, we all know that temporary situations have a nasty tendency to become permanent, especially when they involve marginalized people for whom the administration has consistently shown contempt and disregard. It seems likely to me that any “temporary” migrant detention facility that is “out of sight” of the US mainland in a place like Guantanamo will quickly become a modern concentration camp for migrants. In order to build this facility out, the administration will need funding from Congress, so I ask you to please vehemently oppose any such funding.
