Reconsider Support for HB257: Create Inclusive and Safe Public Spaces

The recent advancement of HB257, a bill mandating bathroom use according to birth certificate sex in publicly funded buildings, raises significant concerns. While the intention to establish trust and protect women's rights is commendable, the bill overlooks the potential harm to gender nonconforming individuals. It is crucial to consider the discomfort and danger they may face in public spaces due to this legislation. The suggestion to wait for more single-use bathrooms is not a viable immediate solution. Therefore, it is requested to reconsider the support for HB257 and instead, focus on creating inclusive and safe public spaces for all, irrespective of their gender identity. This approach aligns with the positive aspects of the bill, such as codifying Title Nine and promoting accommodating public spaces, without causing harm to any group.
