An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Justice Alito must recuse himself from election-related cases

79 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

This recent revelation about Justice Alito's home displaying an upside-down American flag, a symbol of the "Stop the Steal" campaign, is deeply concerning. It calls into question his ability to remain impartial and uphold our democratic values when ruling on cases related to the 2020 election and the January 6th insurrection. Coupled with Justice Thomas' wife's involvement in efforts to overturn the election results, we now have two Supreme Court justices whose judgments appear compromised by anti-democratic sympathies. Judicial ethics demand that judges recuse themselves from any case where their impartiality could reasonably be questioned. Justice Alito's actions create the appearance of bias against the legitimate 2020 election outcome. As such, he must recuse himself from any cases involving former President Trump or the efforts to nullify the will of the voters on January 6th. Our nation's highest court cannot be entrusted to justices who enabled attempts to subvert our democracy. I urge you to call for Justice Alito's recusal to protect the integrity of the Supreme Court and the rule of law.
