YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED

A US senator was denied access to one of his constituents being held illegally in an El Salvador terrorist prison. When the senator asked why El Salvador continued to hold Kilmar Abrego García even though he was sent by “administrative error” and had no charges against him, the country’s V-P replied that the US was paying them to hold him. (Bloomberg has reported that 90% of the men Trump has sent to El Salvador have no criminal record.) So why can’t they just deduct the cost of one prisoner’s upkeep from the $6M and let him come back to the US for the due process guaranteed to him under our Constitution? Easy peasy problem solved. But no. The Trump administration is going to continue to fight a battle of their own making. And we should welcome them to do so. Because then we might be able to get to the bottom of this whole disgraceful episode. We the people deserve to know who’s responsible for actions that are shining a spotlight on whether America is a country of laws. Or of lawlessness. And whether we will allow a president sworn to uphold the laws of the country he was elected to lead to instead thumb his nose at all we’re supposed to stand for. And no one can, or will, stop him. A bevy of GOP lawmakers continue to trek to El Salvador for photo-ops of themselves with caged men. Which I expect they then proudly post on social media with appropriately vile captions. A few days ago El Salvador’s president Bukele posted a picture of himself and Trump with their arms around each other with the comment: “Friends.” We traded Europe for a guy that builds concentration camps for profit. I can’t believe how far the GOP has sunk into depraved cruelty.
